From Chiang Mai to Koh Samui…

A rainy morning here on Ko Samui. I’m staying at the Shambala – a nice quiet spot very close to the airport on Buddha Beach. It has a really nice laid-back atmosphere. I arrived here yesterday afternoon, put my bike together at the airport and then set out to find a place to stay. I was pretty hungry and didn’t feel like riding so was happy to find a strip of bungalows so close. I have a bungalow right on the beach with private bathroom for only $7/night! I feel like a queen! The beach is small but the water is clear blue and there are palm trees lining the shore – can’t complain about that! To boot the food here is excellent. I had Mandalan Curry with vegetables last night and it was terrific. The rain is a bit depressing but in a way it’s kind of cool to experience the rainy season…early this morning it stormed with heavy rain, thunder and lightening.
So I’m not sure what I’ll do for the day and I’m trying to decide whether to stay on Samui or take the ferry to Pha-Ngan, another island 15 km north of here (famous for it’s monthly’Full Moon Party’). I have a week or so until my’cleanse’ starts at the Spa down on Lamai Beach so I have some time to explore. The’cleanse’ is a basically a 7-day fast and intestinal cleansing program that I booked in advance from Chang Mai. If anyone knows me then they know I am pretty into that stuff and this is a place I’ve been looking to going to for a couple of years now. I’m sure I will get into more detail on all of that later…
