Preparations for the ‘fast’…

November 14th, 2001 at 12:00am

My second day at the Spa on Lamai Beach, Ko Samui, and the first day of my (hopefully) 7-day fast.

Rebecca and I had a fun afternoon in Na Thon the other day. We jumped from place to place and drank a few beers here and there all afternoon. It’s amazing how much fun it can be to shop while buzzed. We eventually made it to Shambala where I was happily reunited with my bicycle and gear. That was our last night together in Thailand so we partied appropriately and stayed up late chatting away. I think I can easily call her a new friend that I made.

Yesterday morning I packed, said goodbye and left Rebecca to enjoy her last day on the island. Today she is heading to Bangkok and she then leaves on Friday to go home to New Zealand.

So I lazily decided to take a taxi to Lamai rather than cycle and I definitely paid the price of having to wait 40 minutes for a taxi and then pay a 250 BAHT fare. Oh well…It was really hot and I was not focused enough to put a good ride in. I arrived here at the Spa, checked in, and then headed downtown to Lamai in search of sunblock, internet, and a leg waxing place (Rebecca and I had no luck the other day). I found a beauty salon and the woman said 400 BAHT for half-leg which I thought was pricey but said ok and then called off the deal when I realized she had pretty much no clue what she was doing. I felt bad though. So I asked her to cut my hair which she did for 150 BAHT. It was a good thing too because it really needed a trim.

Yesterday I met with Andrea, the fasting coordinator, and got the instructions for the game plan. There are 3 other people starting at the same time as me. Today I woke up at 7am and started the shake and pill-popping schedule (I guess that would be’detox drink’ and’herbs’ to the hard-core faster. I will take it day by day. More update to follow…
