Rat eviction

November 25th, 2001 at 12:00am

Operation Kill the Rat has been successfully accomplished. It is 6:30am and the Rat has just moved out for good.

Luckily he didn’t actually find the trap until just before 6am because once he got stuck on there good he started crying and trying to pull himself off. I could not have taken having to listen to that all night. So I woke up to the commotion and decided it would be a fine morning to watch the sunrise. Hey, as much as I wanted Him to die, I still couldn’t stand to listen to his agony only a few from my bed. I went out to the beach and listened to a CD and when the staff arrived a few minutes ago I went right over and asked them to help me. Thank God they went right in and took the trap out (The poor guy was still alive and crying). But I am so relieved to know that my roommate is gone!

Speaking of all of this, the general condition of this whole place should really be explained. Did you ever see that episode of Laverne and Shirley where they take that vacation to Mexico and it turns out to be a complete disaster – the room has no walls and nothing works and then a hurricane hits them in their room? Well, that is exactly what the Spa ‘Resort’ on Lamai Beach is like…

First of course is this Rat that has been tormenting me at night. Then there’s the beach, which is the only stretch of beach in Lamai where you CAN’T swim because all the fishing boats anchor right on the beach here. There’s at least one tire on the shore and all kinds of crap and every time a boat comes or goes there’s a cloud of black smoke and quite a loud noise from the engine as well. The place is generally falling apart. When Ines was standing on the porch of her bungalow it ACTUALLY COLLAPSED and the whole thing fell apart. She was lucky that she didn’t get hurt.

The service in the restaurant is a joke…the ‘waitresses’ spend most of their time in the kitchen chatting so you’re lucky if you can even find one and then half the time they forget your order so you have to go back and re-order when you realize that you’re not getting anything. We even have a ghost here. That’s right! Well, his full name is the Ghost of the tv room, but for short we just call him the Ghost. He’s this older local Western guy (a friend of the owner’s we assume) and EVERY day he comes to hog the tv in OUR tv room to watch sports, movies, whatever HE wants. Mind you he’s not staying here or fasting or paying to be a guest. And we have a lot of educational videos on health and fasting that we would like to watch but we can’t because the Ghost is always in there. We’ve tried asking him to give some time to other people but he gets very hostile and aggressive and is totally unreasonable.

Oh, and did I mention the burning trash? Well I guess the fisherman burn all their trash right next door so we often have billowing clouds of black smoke going right through the bungalows (not to be confused with the billowing clouds of black smoke from the boat engines of course). It’s actually quite comical when you realize what a complete disaster it is. And apparently the owners are building a new Spa up on the mountain so people are thinking well they’ve obviously let this place go to work on the new place. Well, one of the guys we know here is actually staying at the new place but they don’t have any facilities running yet so he’s basically spending his days here since he’s on the fast and needs the detox drinks, colemas, etc. Anyway it’s been a nightmare for him too!!! He was here the other night and they called him back because water was rushing out from under his door!! One of the pipes in the bathroom sink had burst. It is definitely not the most quiet, serene, or peaceful setting for a bunch of fasters that’s for sure!
