A Sanctuary…

I am on Ko Lanta. It’s a beautiful place, another island south of Phi Phi. Took the 1-hour boat ride from Phi Phi today. I was very happy to leave Phi Phi and the’backpackers’ behind. This morning around 5am my two male drunken neighbors decided to continue the party on the porch of their bungalow. Mind you they could have easily gone down to the beach, far away from the bungalows and the people trying to sleep, but that would have been CONSIDERATE, a concept very foreign to the ‘backpacker.’ Finally, at 6am when I realized they had no intention of winding down, I decided to take my book and sit down on the beach for some peace and quiet. When they saw me leave my bungalow they tried the ‘hey, oohhh, hi’ thing and when I mumbled a growl back I got a typical ‘What’s wrong with HER?’. Sorry, dudes, not everyone is into the I’m so loud and drunk and cool because I stay up all night and party scene – you will NOT impress ME with THAT you MORON!!!
It was time for me to move on. I seem to have found a more peaceful place here, appropriately called ‘The Sanctuary.’ It’s a nice spot right on the beach with a great Indian/Thai restaurant and very nice Thai owners. The one owner is an artist who has created beautiful scenes in colorful tiles all over the restaurant. My bungalow is completely thatched ratan and the toilet/shower is out back amid a floor of broken coral pieces. Very pretty.
I spent the afternoon finishing my book – Tom Robbin’s Fierce Invalids home from Hot Climates, given to me by Andrea, a girl back at the Spa. It was passed to her by another guy whose stipulation was that no money can be exchanged for the book and after you have finished to write your thoughts, comments, place, and date in the back of the book. So now I have to keep up the tradition and pass it on to someone else…
I seem to have taken a cold with me from Phi Phi. I’ve got a seriously out-of-control runny nose and stuffy head…may have been from the all-day snorkling trip. Hope it clears up soon – no fun being stuffed up in this heat!
