Why is it that I find cockroaches so disgusting and yet sand crabs harmless and even cute?

Met a really nice group of people this evening. At sunset, I was in my usual spot, at the place next to my bungalow, sitting out at a table by the water with a perfect view of the setting sun. Each day, at about 5pm, I have been going there and ordering the exact same thing – fruit salad (with no watermelon) and a cup of hot water with lemon and honey on the side. Now they seem to know me, and when I arrive, they simply ask ‘Same same?,’ and I say ‘Yes, same, same.’ The funniest thing is that every day I seem to get more fruit than the day before (I guess that means they like me). Today it was almost too much to eat!

Anyway, as I sat there reading my book, an older gentleman walked by, then paused, and turned around and said, ‘Would you happen to have a book that you’d be interested in swapping?’ And I said, ‘Well, as a matter of fact I have been looking for someone to give a book to!’ And so he hurriedly sat down and said, ‘What is it?’ I told him – Tom Robbin’s Fierce Invalids home from Hot Climates. He said, ‘You’re joking. THAT’S the exact book I was looking for’ I found a new owner for my book and kept the tradition going!

After talking for a bit, Joe (that’s the Tom Robbins fan) and I went our separate ways but we met up again later for a drink at the Sanctuary (mine being lemongrass tea and his being water). Joe has been traveling for the past 9 years!! I certainly admire his lifestyle. Anyway, a few others eventually joined us – Leslie and Jim – the four of us all American and all solo-traveling. Great people – all very nice and so interesting. Jim teaches some type of alternative golf lesson using golf and meditation. A good time had by all.

Another slow and relaxing beach day. Still trying to shake the cold. I’ve been losing my voice as well which is good because I guess I can’t talk too much.

Why is it that I find cockroaches so disgusting and yet sand crabs harmless and even cute? If there were cockroaches running all over the beach I’d be horrified. Yet the sand crabs don’t bother me a bit.

Hmmm.

Another one of life’s mysteries?
