Sitting outside at night with other travelers talking about life under the stars

I have never been a beach bum. Lots of people at home rent ‘shore homes’ every summer and spend every weekend, or even the entire summer, down the shore, on the beach. I have NEVER had the desire. I always thought well, I guess I’m just not a beach person. Now, however, I have discovered the truth. It has nothing to do with the sun or the beach. I am simply not a ‘crowd’ person. Especially, and more importantly, I am not a ‘beach crowd’ person.
The ‘beach crowd’ is quite similar, and is probably mostly composed of ‘backpackers’. Lots of one-upping,’ I’ve been partying for 2 weeks straight dude’, lots of loud, annoying, inconsiderate, shallow, and uninteresting people. A crowd of the worst kind.
Here, however, on this beautiful remote spot, I am finding the ‘beach person’ in me. Free of ‘crowds’, free of assholes, free of all-night beach parties, this place allows me to discover and appreciate the beach.
To watch the tides come and go every day. To engage in my ‘mindful’ shell collecting. To experience the subtle temperature change in the afternoon. To witness a different and yet always beautiful sunset each day. To listen to the birds sing and the gecko calls in the evening. To sit outside at night with other travelers and talk about life under the stars. To get up again to a new day with anticipation and awe of the beauty all around me.
I have decided to stay on Ko Lanta until after New Year’s. I guess I have become my own ‘one girl’ style of Beach Bum!
