Living in the moment
December 12th, 2001 at 12:00am
The bike has added a new mode of transport to it’s long list today – the BOAT. I went back to the mainland yesterday after deciding to stay on Lanta to get my bicycle and duffle bag. Took the 1pm boat which arrived in Krabi at 3pm, and then spent all afternoon doing shopping and errands. The best thing I found was 4 jigsaw puzzles which I can’t wait to sit down and do! I had been wanting to do one for weeks but could not find them ANYWHERE! So when I found them I bought 4 at 75 cents each. Now I am back on the boat and so looking forward to getting back to my bungalow and the beach. The bike is bungyed to the railing of the boat, next to the massive pile of ‘backpacks’.
Some days I just realize how happy I am that I made the decision to ‘follow my heart’, do what I want to do with my life, and be living in the moment. It is such a great feeling of peace and serenity. There is no ‘I can’t wait for my 2-week release (vacation) next year – just trying to survive until then’. There is absolutely NO REASON for anyone to be living like that. People take for granted that they will be alive and able to do what they ‘really want to do’ when they retire. People take for granted that they have their health. People take for granted that they have opportunity and choices. A false sense of security that will NOT always be there.
Make whatever changes you need to make in you life NOW and begin LIVING FOR THE MOMENT.
note: This journal entry is dedicated to Jim Roux, someone I knew who, I just found out today, had been on the plane that hit the second WTC tower on September 11, 2001.
