Bang Lassis and Carlsbergs at the Reggae Bar

Hard to believe that it’s five days until Christmas and I’m sitting here in a bathing suit on the beach in the sun. There are no Christmas decorations ANYWHERE, and, even better, no Christmas music playing in every store, house, and shopping mall. It’s great! I think I should try to spend every Christmas on the beach from now on! A new tradition perhaps…
More of the same happening on Lanta but with lots of laughs and good conversation between new friends. My breakfast friend Martin is turning out to be quite the character. He is just so funny. A pretty reserved and quiet guy when you first meet him but he has such a funny side when he gets talking and even more so when he gets drinking. The other day he came to breakfast and was pretty tired and slow to get talking. Proceeds to tell me that the night before he had been drinking with 4 other travelers and somehow, before he knew it, he was swimming naked in the water, and then he was running up and down the beach, wearing nothing but a headlamp, chasing sandcrabs up and down the sand. He was worried now though that maybe people saw him doing this and that he would be recognized while on the beach today. It is just too funny to imagine quiet Martin in this other state of mind. He also caught the affectionate eye of one of the Thai women working at his bungalow…every time he goes there she comes running up to him -’Marteen, Marteen’ and is always trying to rub him and grab him. Martin has tried to be polite and tell her that he is married and such but nothing seems to stop this woman. She is not going to give up easily it seems. Poor Martin!!
More good laughs and conversation had last night with Martin and my new friend Nick, us hanging out at the Reggae Bar with Bang Lassis and Carlsbergs shared by all. It’s a great little bar, right on the water, with driftwood tables and pillows to lay down on, and a totally relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. The stars were out in full force making for a beautiful night sky as well.
