Second day in Bangkok – Completely overwhelming!

Second day in Bangkok. Today was a LONG day. This morning I ventured to the famous Pantip Plaza – a 4-story mall selling only computers and software and computer-related equipment. EVERY store in the entire mall selling computer-related equipment. Completely overwhelming!

I took a local bus and got there early because I had heard how crazy it gets with crowds. The main purchase of the day was a digital camera. I hope it’s a good one because I really did not have the time or energy to research it properly. Hopefully it will make getting photos uploaded a bit easier. I definitely did NOT buy anything from the many, many stores full of pirated software, CD’s, and DVD’s and CVD’s – no, no THAT would have been illegal. But IF I did they would have been anywhere from $2 – $6 a piece – not bad, eh?

After Pantip I decided I needed a break so I went to see a movie at the Bangkok World Trade Center. I opted for Ocean’s Eleven which wasn’t bad for the $3 it costs here. After they played the coming attractions there was this notice that came on the screen that said: “Now please pay Respect to His Majesty the King.” Then everyone in the theatre stood up as we watched this 3-minute clip of what I guess is supposed to be scenes of order and peace in Thailand combined with shots of the King. After that the movie started as usual.

From the cineplex I walked to SiamCentre and then decided to walk all the way back to the guesthouse which took a total of about 1.5 hours. It was an ok walk if you could ignore the pollution and horrific traffic – even motorbikes riding on the sidewalks!! After all that I hope I sleep well tonight!
