Errands in BKK – movies, visas, and warts…

January 11th, 2002 at 12:00am

Ok, so I am STILL in Bangkok! I can’t believe it…but I am leaving tomorrow and heading back to the beach – this time to the east of the city near the Cambodian border. A new place for me to discover…

I’ve been hanging out with Martin for the past 2 days. He came up from the south and got a room at the same guesthouse as me. It was so good to see a familiar face and someone from Lanta as well! We spent some time catching up on New Year’s stories, etc. and then Martin told me he was headed towards Ko Chang and I happened to be considering the same because I still have ten days left on my Thai visa and so I wanted to go somewhere but not too far from Bangkok so anyway we are both going to take the 6-hour minivan ride there tomorrow. I should be able to stay for a week and then I will need to come back to Bangkok to take care of visas and be on my merry way out of Thailand for a bit.

Yesterday was spent doing errands and then yesterday afternoon Martin and I ventured to the World Trade Center to see Lord of the Rings. This time we took a boat down the river to the sky train terminal and then the sky train which was pretty exciting because it has only been open for a year now. The movie was great but what was up with the ending?? I haven’t read the books so I didn’t realize that it was only meant to cover the first part of the story or something, right?

So this morning I bought my ticket for tomorrow and then decided to stop by the plastic sugery clinic to see how much it costs to have a wart on my knee removed (a souvenir from the Appalachian Trail). In twenty mintues I was in and out, wart having been lasered off, all for a total of $12 USD!! Bangkok is really, really good in this way.
