Diving at Ko Bida!

Great diving again today! Wow. I am SO glad that I went! Didn’t want to get up early this morning (6:30am) for the 7:30am pick-up into town, but now I’m so happy that I did! Ko Bida consists of 2 islands that are next to Ko Phi-Phi Don and Phi-Phi Ley (famous for Maya Bay, where The Beach was filmed). Anyway, I had heard from other divers that the visibility there was poor so I was not expecting anything great, so man I was pleasantly surprised when we got in the water! Conditions were PERFECT – the water was as clear as glass and there was just the slightest current, the perfect amount to just glide through the dive.

Again I was assigned to my own dive master – this time it was Tizi, from Austria. She’s such a nice girl, a very good diver, and is very enthusiastic about seeing stuff which made it so much fun to dive with her. We went off on our own and saw so much!!! One leopard shark, one white-eyed moray eel, one giant moray eel, one spot-faced moray eel, 3 baby lionfish, 2 scorpionfish, and so much more! At the end of the dive we swam through Fantasy Rock which was chock-full of glassfish – awesome!

The first dive was 22 meters and the second dive was 17 meters. On the second dive, at Huang Bida, we saw more lionfish, more scorpionfish, one yellow-edged moral eel, a pair of gobies, one zebra moray eel, and a school (30+) of longthoms (which look similar to barracuda). It was GREAT! So relaxing to just coast along and think, wow, I am on the bottom of the ocean! Another world!

I had such a good day that I’ve decided to go diving again tomorrow. Tiza told me she is working again so I hope that we get to dive together. Doesn’t get much better than this!
