V drink and glucose tabs

May 24th, 2003 at 12:00am

Long day! Nearly six hours on the bike, that’s a lot. The road was flat but the sun was hot and 120 km on the bike is a lot for one day. I had 2 cans of Red Bull (V Drink actually) to help get me through the day. It’s the first time I’ve tried that while cycling and I’d say it works really well. Got a good boost for 20 km off of each can. Also tried glucose tablets for the first time and they really helped for the last 25 km. I’m going to use them at the end of every day I think. The exciting thing about today is that I crossed over into the Townsville-Cairns map which is the final map I’ll need for this trip. Well ok, it’s exciting to me anyway. I can see the end on my map now and that is very cool. Laying down feels so good after a long day. The heat rash is rampant but I’m in good spirits. If I can get to Townsville tomorrow then I can look forward to a rest day!
