Tai Chi course Day 9
September 9th, 2003 at 12:00am
It is Day 9 of the course on the 9th day of the 9th month. Hmmm..is that something cosmic there? After 9 days the material is still interesting and the postures are still challenging, so I’d say I’m getting my money’s worth. We are now doing a lot of fine-tuning of the positions, and with only 3 people in the course, we are really lucky to get so much personal attention. Yesterday afternoon we were each videotaped doing the sequence, and we were able to watch it afterward so we could identify our own mistakes. This morning we spent some time talking about the 5 main principles of Chinese Medicine – Fire, Earth, Metal, Water, and Wood – and how they are applied to the internal balance of the body.
Update on the rash -well my face has calmed down significantly, but I still have red bumps of rash all over the body. However, as Dr. Wong pointed out, the old ones are healing, and even though the new ones are still coming out, it is a good sign that the body is responding to the treatment if the old ones are getting better. Makes sense I guess. And actually, I hadn’t even noticed that, because in my mind the rash is ‘just everywhere.’ Today will be the sixth day of acupuncture and the fifth day on Chinese herbs.
And as it rains a nice healthy jungle rain this morning, I feel naturally compelled to comment on the weather in Chiang Mai. It is still the rainy season here, and in my opinion it is a great time to come. For one, you don’t have a lot of tourists here. Even better, it is not that hot, because there are usually a lot of clouds in the sky so you don’t feel the heat from the sun. And yes it rains every day, but usually only for an hour or two, and it does pour, but to me that kind of rain is so awesome and beautiful that you would be missing out if you never experienced it before. Then it stops raining and everything is nice and cool, in Southest Asia! Yes, it happens, but only in the rainy season. You don’t need aircon at all this time of year. And practicing Tai Chi in the afternoon when you can feel the change in temperature and hear the rain coming from miles away is just incredible.
