Hanging out with Hollywood friends

December 30th, 2003 at 12:00am

Yesterday was the day of my hitch-hiking adventure into Nathon. The purpose of the mission was to buy sesame seed paste for myself as well as a few others at the Spa. As with virtually every hitch-hiking experience, it brought the unexpected. I got picked up by 2 American guys named Jeff and Matthew who kindly took me the whole 20 km into Nathon. They had just rented a Jeep for their one-week holiday on Samui, and were keen to circumnavigate the entire island, so after I bought my supplies in Nathon, I wound up joining them for the entire ride. It was great to be in a car after so many weeks on the same little beach!

The interesting thing about these 2 guys is that they both work in Hollywood – Matthew just finished being the creative-something on the film ‘Elf,’ and Jeff just finished writing a new movie starring Dustin Hoffman, Lily Tomlin, and Jude Law (as of yet un-named). It is amazing the people you meet from hitching! The are also travelling with 4 other ‘Hollywood’ friends, and we all spent the afternoon hanging out in their 5-star resort. Jeff and Matthew were especially nice and I am amazed that they are so successful and only 30 and 26 years old! I learned a new term from them, called ‘photo-kill,’ which is the right that all stars have to reject the right of their photo being published in any printed material. I wonder if any of those farmers that picked me up in New Zealand know what ‘photo-kill’ is! It’s another world in Los Angeles. Well, there are always new types of people to meet in this world – that is one thing I have learned first-hand from this travelling experience!
