Happy New Year!

Nice to have an early morning on New Year’s Day with no hangover! At 7am I went for a walk on the beach, had breakfast, and headed out to hitch a ride to Chaweng, another beach town 10 km up the road. I went to check out the Central Resort, which is a very flash 5-star resort that has a nice gym right by the beach and non-guests can buy a membership for $50 USD/month. With the gym membership, you have access to their pool and beach all day as well. The gym is very clean and quiet and consists of 2 glass buildings so you can literally look at the sea while you sweat. I found out about this place from an American couple I met at the Spa, Katrina and David, and I’m so glad they told me about it because I’m definitely going to join. I can live like a queen during the day amidst the people paying $250 USD/night to stay there, and then go back to my $7 USD/night bungalow in Lamai!!

After investigating Central, I did some shopping in Chaweng. I treated myself to a gossip magazine, a bracelet, and a new bikini for my New Year’s gifts to myself.

New Year’s itself was quiet for me on Samui last night. The Spa had a New Year’s party for the staff, so I went to that and had some free food and chatted amongst other Spa-ers (Dolph from Australia, San Bao from Germany, Maurag from Canada, and Dirk from Germany). I didn’t have one drop of alcohol, just some food, and all healthy at that. And I didn’t even stay awake for New Years! I was off to bed about 10:30pm and was happy that I wasn’t stuck at some stupid boring party!! So that was my New Year’s in Thailand. The year in Thailand by the way, is 2547, not 2004, since the Thais measure their year from the day that Lord Buddha was born. Bet ‘cha didn’t know that!
