Two weddings and a birthday

Big party at the Spa tonight – a birthday celebration as well as 2 weddings! It’s been good fun to see all the staff dress up and loosen up after several Carlsbergs…personally I have been very good and stayed off the free beer, although did indulge in the buffet which had excellent Thai food and many veggie options. The party seemed to go on forever – first with Thai songs and dancing, then karaoke, then a Pacific Rim dance and fire show, and a Cabaret show show somewhere in between. I was struggling to stay awake by the end, but wanted to see the massage girls do their traditional Isaan dance. The Cabaret show show was hilarious with all the lady boys up there doing their thing, and they weren’t shy to show the crowd their boob jobs either. A bit much for a wedding party but I think anything goes in Thailand!

It was great to see my friend Ning, the manicurist at the Spa, in her traditional wedding dress. Her family is from a small village and had never even seen a white person before coming to Ko Samui to see their daughter get married! You can imagine the shell-shocked look on their faces all night, between the Cabaret show and all the foreigners everywhere, including Ning’s husband who is American!
