The Coup

September 21st, 2006 at 12:00am

Well I’m sure you’ve all heard the big news by now…yes we’ve had a military coup happening here in Thailand. Don’t worry folks, so far all is fine and really there are no signs of anything different here on Koh Samui, even though we are no under martial law and military rule until further notice. It doesn’t seem to be affecting tourists as of yet. The banks and public offices were closed yesterday following the coup which happened the night before in Bangkok, but today everything is open and back to normal. I’m impressed by the one email I received from an American friend because I actually did not see anything about it at all on the US news. They’re too busy worrying about the War on Terror I guess. For those of you non-American soiled folks who have heard the news, I can tell you from the ‘inside’ that all is well in Thailand, so as they say here, ‘Mai Pen Rai,’ or ‘Never mind!’

Onto other important goings-on down here – the real big news of the day is that I am happily EATING again after completing a very successful 28-day fast/health cleanse. It’s been 6 days now that I’ve been eating again and life is truly wonderful in the eating world! I have been enjoying lots of fresh tropical fruit, salads and juices and I feel so healthy and fit that it has all been very much worth the effort. I am also happy to report that everything is ‘moving along’ quite regularly, a real concern after not eating for 28 days, but no problems at all in that department! I’ve been walking 1.5 hours every day and running every evening too, and I really think that has helped make the adjustment to eating much easier as well.

It’s been absolutely great not having to worry about colemas and pills and detox drinks for the first time in 4 weeks, and I have been running around the island doing many errands that I did not have the motivation or energy to deal with before. Everyone says I look great and I cannot argue with them because I FEEL great too! I?ve made a lot of good friends in the last few weeks here, and I seem to have managed a good balance between meditation/reading time and socializing/relax time. How did I ever have time to work??? Oh never mind, I don’t want to think about that for now!

I’ve also been practicing my Reiki skills now that I have completed the Level 1 course; in fact I am off soon to practice on my Thai friend Chai. I hope to start with the Level 2 course soon, and if all goes well I’ll start getting more Chinese Cupping clients to help fund the depleting travel savings. I had another paying customer yesterday, and now that I am not fasting, I can really try to get more business.

I’ll be sure to keep everyone posted on any political changes or turmoil happening in the next few weeks, but for now I can assure you that all is well here, and if you were planning to come to Thailand at all in the near future, do not cancel your plans!!

I’ll leave you with this lovely passage from Bob Dylan…one I’m sure we’ve all heard before but it’s a nice one to reflect upon. I’ve done so much healing on many different levels in the last 3 months and I think this little excerpt sums it all up so well:

From Bob Dylan- Tambourine Man:

And take me disappearing through the smoke rings of my mind

Down the foggy ruins of time

Far past the frozen leaves, the haunted frightened trees

Out to the windy beach

Far from the twisted reach of crazy sorrows.

Yes to dance beneath the diamond sky with one hand waving free

Silhouetted by the sea

Circled by the circus sands

With all memory and fate driven deep beneath the waves

Let me forget about today until tomorrow…
