It’s not easy writing a travel blog when you’ve been in the same place for 4 months, and many times prior as well…somehow it doesn’t seem that interesting telling the happenings of my daily island life. In fact, my life ‘away from home’ has been revealing itself for so long now that it no longer feels like it’s separate from home, if you know what I mean. I guess you would have had to be travelling for 7 years to really get it, to really grasp the idea that ‘home’ is wherever you are at that moment in time. I don’t attach myself to material things much – I can easily pack up one suitcase tomorrow and be on my way again. The freedom of being unencumbered is so, well, free-ing.
I certainly do not take for granted the life I have made for myself here…in fact even today when I woke up at 9am and rolled out to the beach to lie in the sun for an hour before I really even woke up, I thought, man I am so happy I can wake up when I want to wake up. The thought of an alarm clock going off in the cold darkness of winter forcing one of of a peaceful slumber is just sick and wrong!!!
I spend my days reading, working on computer projects, walking the beach, socializing, and occasionally working when need be. Like I always say, it’s all about the balance. And in this lifetime anyway, I want the balance to be heavily sided to my favor. I am very productive compared to many other people here who generally party every night and sleep until mid-day…I guess I could do that but I do enjoy achieving goals every day, even if they are minor ones.

What a relief it is to finally be out of the Year of the Pig, which should have been an excellent year for me being a Pig myself, but it was the exact opposite – ha! It doesn’t matter what this new year brings for me now – anything is better than 2007!! The Year of the Rat marks a new cycle for the full Chinese astrological chart, so let’s hope for new beginnings for everyone.
