Journal Entry 7.1.00
“At Bascom Lodge on the summit of Mt. Greylock. 8 miles out of Cheshire today – we decided to make it a short day and do work-for-stay here. We get to sleep on the floor in the porch after 1.5 hours of washing dishes. Tomorrow I’ll be heading into Vermont and have less than 600 miles to go!”

WonderGimp, Good Vibe and No Whey

Journal Entry 7.2.00
“8pm in my tent at Congdon shelter in VERMONT! 20.4 miles today. Only 3 states to go! Not a great day for me – was feeling tired and low on energy all day. I got to the shelter and some section hiker started talking about how much it would suck to start as a couple on the trail and then break up. Then my stove exploded. I just want to sleep.”

Journal Entry 7.3.00
“18.7 miles today. Much easier day for me than yesterday. I’m working through the “funk” that I’ve been in for the last week or so. It seems like everyone has been feeling low lately. Mostly because we’ve come so far but there is still a considerable distance to go. Getting to Vermont has definitely helped and I know I’ll be in New Hampshire next week.”

Journal Entry 7.4.00
“Fourth of July at Stratton Pond! Here with Good Vibe, No Whey, Horses Trot, and a few Long Trail hikers. I had to pay $5 to stay at this shelter – the first time I’ve paid to sleep in a shelter on the entire trail. We all swam in the pond earlier – it was SO nice to rinse off all the mud, sweat and Deet that has been stuck to my body for days. I met my first southbounder today – Red Dog. He started on May 22. Well, the only fireworks we have are our photon lights and the strobe setting on No Whey’s flashlight so I’m going to go watch the show!”
